Montgomery and Dependent GI Bill Payments Are About to Increase

If you are one of the few remaining veterans who isn't using the Post-9/11 GI Bill, you'll be seeing an increase in your monthly payments beginning October 1.

The fiscal year 2020 monthly GI Bill payment rates will rise an average of 2.8% over last year's rates.

The annual cost-of-living allowance is being rolled out for all GI Bill programs except the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which received its increase on August 1. You should see the increased payments in your Nov. 1, 2019 payment.

Let's look at how much more you can expect to receive for the upcoming year.

Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty

A full-time student using the Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty will see their monthly payment increase from $1,994 to $2,050, while a half-time student will see an increase from $997 to $1,025. Check out all the rates here.

Montgomery GI Bill - Reserves

A full-time student using the Montgomery GI Bill - Reserves will see their monthly payment increase from $384 to $392, while a half-time student will see an increase from $191 to $195. Check out all the rates here.

Dependents Education Assistance

A full-time student using the Dependents Education Assistance Program will see their monthly payment increase from $1,224 to $1,248, while a half-time student will see an increase from $710 to $724. Check out all the rates here.

Post-9/11 GI Bill

The Post-9/11 GI Bill Monthly Housing Allowance and maximum amount payable for private, foreign and online schools increased on Aug. 1, 2018. Check out those rates here.
