MOAA Recognized for Commitment to Mentoring

MOAA is pleased to be recognized by the eMentor Program as a recipient of its 2018 Outstanding Commitment to Mentoring Award. This award recognizes the efforts of individuals and organizations within the eMentor Community who spent the last year dedicated to helping veterans and military spouses achieve success through the power of mentoring.  

With almost 1 million people leaving the uniformed services over the next five years, and military spouses experiencing an average unemployment rate of 20% among those seeking work (about five times higher than their civilian counterparts’), mentoring programs serve as a critical and vital tool for civilian career success. Individuals who have a mentor report a reduced lag time in career transition, increase in promotions and compensation, and higher career satisfaction and commitment. 

“Having a mentor is everything,” said Capt. Patricia Cole, USN (Ret), deputy director of MOAA’s Transition Center. “You can connect with people who have already walked that path. People don’t have to carry that burden themselves. Mentors can make a difference in another person’s success.”

MOAA has been a supporter of eMentor since 2013. Volunteer mentors from MOAA have provided mentoring to 28 veterans and military spouses, contributing to the personal and professional development of eMentor program participants.
