The Pine Tree Chapter serves members in three distinct ways: • By providing timely information on national and state legislative issues relating specifically to military retirees. • By hosting several social events each year where members, their spouses, family members, and guests can socialize with fellow officers who have similar careers and experiences. • By awarding scholarships to ROTC students attending the University of Maine and Maine Maritime Academy and recognizing outstanding high school JROTC students, made possible through chapter donations, auctions, and other fund-raising events.

Membership in the MOAA Pine Tree Chapter of Maine is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. Our chapter events include a monthly breakfast meeting held on the first Thursday of every month at the Howard Johnson’s restaurant in Bangor as well as luncheon meetings held throughout northern and central Maine, usually in February, May, August, and November.

The Pine Tree Chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda. In addition, we are blessed to have as our Congressman, Representative Mike Michaud, Ranking Member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. Congressman Michaud has attended our luncheon events on several occasions. In addition, a number of our members either serve or have served as elected officials in Maine state government.

Because we have relatively few members who reside over such a large geographical area, we have chosen to hold luncheon meetings in order that our members do not have to drive after dark, if at all possible.

The MOAA Pine Tree Chapter of Maine was founded in 1979 and serves the northern half of the state of Maine. We currently have approximately 100 members representing all branches of the uniformed services dispersed over a geographical area approximately 25,000 square miles in size, as we have members who reside as far south as Augusta to as far north as Caribou to as far east as Eastport. Many of our members are only in the area during the summer and fall months due to the weather.
