Mission

The primary mission of the Mount Rainier Chapter (FIVE STAR), MOAA is to promote the purposes and objectives of the national MOAA organization. It also is a member and actively supports the Washington State Council of Chapters and its efforts to facilitate participation in Washington State Legislative issues concerning military, veterans, military retirees and their families. The Chapter also provides a local focal point for members to come together for professional fellowship, assistance and information as well as to provide a social outlet for those officers who have served their country in the uniformed services.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in Mount Rainier Chapter (FIVE STAR), MOAA is open to active duty, retired, National Guard, Reserve, former commissioned officers, and warrant officers of the uniformed services - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Auxiliary membership is also available for surviving spouses of deceased officers. Eligible officers are invited to join us and are guests of the chapter at their first meeting. Regular members dues are $15.00 per year or $40.00 for three (3) years. Beginning Jan 2014, a new 10 year membership will be offered. The cost will be $110.00. Auxiliary dues are $5.00 per year or $12.00 for three (3) years. Chapter Activities

Mount Rainier Chapter (FIVE STAR), MOAA holds 12 meetings a years featuring interesting guest speakers presenting topics relevant to the membership. A special Christmas party is held each December, a baseball game is usually scheduled in July at Cheney Stadium, Tacoma, and the chapter hosts a picnic in August, usually at the McChord Field. In addition the chapter supports 16 local JROTC programs and 1 ROTC Pacific Lutheran University (PLU)program. Other activities include the annual Veterans’ Day observance, annual Memorial day observance and participation in the Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) retiree day function and Masing of the Colors. Recently the chapter has supported the local USO, Fisher House and various programs in support of wounded warriors.

Legislative Issues

The Mount Rainier Chapter (FIVE STAR), MOAA supports the MOAA national legislative agenda, and we annually invite our Congressional Representative and Senators to speak to the chapter. The chapter is also very active in supporting the state council in various state veterans' issues. We have an active Legislative Affairs representative who keeps the chapter current on relevant issues in addition to encouraging members to write or email their members of Congress regarding bills that affect veterans. We also have a Chapter member who is on the Pierce County Veterans Affairs Committee (PCVAC), who briefs members on issues at the national and local level based on MOAA legislative updates and the chapter has members involved in local veteran's organizations and the Veterans Legislative Coalition (VLC), composed of 25 or more veterans groups. Several of our members are very active with this group frequently serving as elected officers.

General Information

Mount Rainier Chapter (FIVE STAR), MOAA meetings are Brunch meetings held on the third Sunday of each month beginning at 12:00 PM. The Location is usualy at Patriots Landing, DuPont, WA changes to this are announced in the chapter Award Winning newsletter, e-mails and at chapter meetings. The Annual General Membership meeting and election of officers is held at the April meeting and installed in the May meeting. The Chapter Board of Directors meet at 7:00 PM on the first Thursday of the month, also at Patriots Landing. Anyone interested is always invited to attend. The Mount Rainier Chapter, A FIVE STAR CHAPTER, MOAA was chartered in 1956 and serves the midwest part of the state, specifically, Pierce County.
