Mission

The mission of the Los Alamitos Area Chapter is to promote the purposes and objectives of the Military Officers Association of America; foster fraternal relations among retired, active and former officers of the uniformed services and their National Guard or Reserve components; protect the rights and interests of active duty, retired, Reserve and National Guard personnel of the uniformed services and their dependents and survivors; provide useful services for members and their dependents and survivors; and serve the community and the nation and such other worthy causes as may be determined by the organization.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in the Los Alamitos Area Chapter, MOAA is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. Annual Chapter dues is $25 for Military members and $20 for Surviving Spouses. Membership in MOAA is also required. Chapter Activities

One of the Los Alamitos Area Chapter's special projects is the support of 18 local high school Junior ROTC programs. At an annual JROTC Recognition Dinner with the Cadet, his/her parents and the JROTC Instructor present, an outstanding cadet from each school is recognized and presented the MOAA Award Certificate, along with a monetary stipend. The MOAA JROTC Medal is presented to the cadet at his/her schools' Annual JROTC Awards Ceremony by a Chapter representative. In addition, the Chapter similarly supports an outstanding cadet from a local Senior ROTC program as well as presenting gold bars to all graduating ROTC seniors.

Legislative Issues

The Los Alamitos Chapter, MOAA supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and invites guest speakers who are knowledgeable on current issues. The Los Alamitos Chapter also supports the California Council of Chapters in various state military and veterans' issues including repeal of the California state income tax on military retired pay.

General Information

Chapter membership encompasses a variety of local areas to include: Anaheim, Carson, Cerritos, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Habra, Lakewood, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Orange, Redando Beach, Roosmoor, Seal Beach, Signal Hill, Stanton, Westminster, Whittier, and Yorba Linda. The Chapter hosts a social lunch gathering the fourth Thursday of each month. We meet at the US Navy Golf Center Clubhouse, 5660 Orangewood, and Cypress, CA. The clubhouse is right off Valley View Street and West on Orangewood which dead-ends into the golf club parking lot. The meeting begins with cocktails at 11:30 AM, a sit down lunch at 12:00 AM with an occasional guest speaker. Dress is casual. The annual Chapter business meeting is held in November. The Chapter's Executive Committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30-11:00 AM in The Retired Activities Office, Building 10, Seal Beach Weapons Station, Seal Beach, CA. This meeting is open to all members wishing to attend.

About Our Chapter

The Los Alamitos Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) encompasses the general area surrounding the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Membership is composed of men and women who are serving or have served on active duty or in one of the National Guard or Reserve components as a commissioned or warrant officer in any component of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Public Health Service and their surviving spouses. The chapter currently publishes a monthly newsletter. In addition to supporting the purposes and objectives of the Military Officers Association of America, the Los Alamitos Area Chapter also supports the aims and programs of the California Council of Chapters (CAL-MOAA).
