Mission

The mission of the Augusta Chapter is to:

Defend the honor, integrity and supremacy of our National Government and the Constitution of the United States;

Stimulate love of country and of our flag;

Advocate military forces adequate to the defense of our country and to oppose any influences whatsoever, calculated to weaken the National Security;

Aid active, reserve component, retired personnel and former members of the uniformed services, their dependents and survivors, in every proper and legislative manner;

Actively support the legislative aims and objectives adopted by MOAA;

Create harmony and a spirit of camaraderie among officers  and former officers of the uniformed services of the United States through an organized program of social and fraternal activities designed to accomplishe these aims.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Membership in the Augusta Chapter is open to anyone who holds or has ever held a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses.

There are a number of ways to join the chapter.  The quickest and perhaps the simplest way is to join online on the MOAA website Councils and Chapters Home Page.  Fill out the Combined Membership Form online and pay the chapter dues with your credit or debit card.  MOAA will then notify the chapter.  You may also contact one of the officers listed above to join directly with the chapter.

Current MOAA members should contact one of the chapter officers listed above for a chapter application form and then pay the dues online or send a check to the chapter.

Chapter Activities

The Augusta Chapter meets monthly, except for the summer months of July and August.  In October, we usually have a picnic or bar-b-q.  In December, we have a joint Christmas party with the Military Order of the World Wars.  In other months, we have a noon luncheon featuring guest speakers on topics of interest to the members.

The chapter supports 17 area high school JROTC programs and the Augusta University ROTC program with MOAA Awards.  The chapter provides a $1,000 scholarship each year to an outstanding JROTC cadet.  Newly commissioned officers at the university are presented with a MOAA Certificate of Achievement and a set of gold bars by a chapter officer.

The chapter participates in Veterans' Day and Memorial Day observances and supports Retiree Day at Fort Gordon.  Examples of past support to the community include the construction and dedication of a Vietnam War Veterans Monument; presentation of Georgia Certificates of Honor to Vietnam War Veterans; financial support for the Fisher Houses at the VA and Fort Gordon, Augusta Wounded Warriors, Forces United, and other non-profit community entities.

Legislative Issues

The chapter supports the MOAA national legislative agenda.  The chapter is also active in supporting the Georgia Council in various state veterans' issues.  One current state issue is the proposed exemption of military retired pay from Georgia state income tax.

General Information

In person chapter meetings are currently suspended due to the COVID 919 pandemic.

About Our Chapter

The Augusta MOAA Chapter was chartered in 1959 as an affiliate of The Retired Officers Association and The Georgia Retired Officers Association, Inc., to serve the Central Savannah River Area of Georgia and South Carolina.  With the advent of the Aiken Chapter in South Carolina, the Augusta Chapter then served, and continues to serve, the East Central Area of Georgia as an affiliate of MOAA and Georgia MOAA.

The chapter currently has 210 members made up of currently serving, former, and retired officers and their surviving spouses.  Regular members are assessed dues of $25 per calendar year, except for surviving spouses who are exempt from payment of dues.  Of the $25, $3 go to the Georgia MOAA Council to support state  activities and programs.

The chapter maintains contact with its members through monthly meetings, a monthly newsletter, calling post and e-mail.  We do not meet nor publish the newsletter during July and August.
