Mission

The mission of the Grand Canyon Chapter is to promote the purposes and objectives of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA); foster fraternal relations among retired, active, and former officers of the eight uniformed services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Public Health Service) and the National Guard and other Reserve Components of those services; protect the rights and interests of Active Duty, Retired, Reserve, and National Guard personnel of the uniformed services and their dependents and survivors; provide useful services for members and their dependents and survivors; and serve the community and the nation. The mission of the Scholarship and Veterans Fund is to provide assistance to United States of America military organizations, military service members, military veterans and their families who are in distress and in need; and to support local JROTC and ROTC programs.

Information on Joining the Chapter

Grand Canyon Chapter membership is available to those who are serving or have served on active duty or in one of the National Guard or Reserve components as a commissioned or warrant officer in one of the eght U.S. uniformed services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Public Health Service) as well as the spouses of deceased eligible members. Annual membership cost is $20.00 for regular members or $10.00 for surviving spouse members; $5 of each member's dues goes to the 501(c)(3) chapter Scholarship Fund. Chapter Activities

The Grand Canyon Chapter holds 10 general meetings a years featuring guest speakers on topics relevant to the members. It also holds two (2) social meetings each year: A picnic each June and a Christmas social each December. In addition the chapter supports the following programs / activities: - Two (2) ROTC programs at Northern Arizona University (NAU) - including an annual scholarship for each program - Five (5) JROTC programs in the greater Flagstaff, AZ area. Four of the JROTC programs are at high schools on Indian Reservations. - Two scholarships for student veterans: one at NAU; one at Coconino Community College - Annual County-wide High Country Stand Down to assist veterans - Formerly homeless veterans - Northern Arizona Veterans Coalition - High Country Veterans Stand Down - Arizona "Be Connected" program

Legislative Issues

The Grand Canyon Chapter strives to be a powerful voice supporting the MOAA legislative agenda at local, state and national levels. Additionally, the chapter continues to strengthen its interface with national and state legislators on military community issues. We annually invite our elected representatives to speak to the chapter. Also, the chapter works to provide strong support to the Arizona Council of Chapters on matters important to Arizona military members.

General Information

Grand Canyon Chapter meetings are lunch meetings held on the third Tuesday of the month at The Oakmont, 2380 N Oakmont Dr, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. Most members arrive around 1145 hours to enjoy social time with the other members prior to lunch being served. The meeting starts promptly at 1230 hours. There are ten (10) general meetings per year: Jan - May and Jul - Nov.

About Our Chapter

The Grand Canyon Chapter was chartered in November 2012 and serves the Greater Flagstaff area and Northern Arizona - a region of 40,975 square miles. The chapter currently has 128 members including currently serving, former, and retired officers and surviving spouses. The chapter offers its membership social events and interaction with community programs, promotes actions that benefit the military and their families, and provides assistance to members and veterans in time of need. The chapter publishes a monthly newsletter, The Canyon Echo to provide members pertinent information on current issues. The chapter meets 10 months per year and conducts social activities the other two. The chapter is a member of the Arizona Council of Chapters. Two milestone events in 2015: (1) The Chapter attained official status as a 501(c)(19) Veterans Organization; and (2) the Chapter established a second 501(c)(3) Charitable organization, the Grand Canyon Chapter MOAA Scholarship and Veterans Fund.
