MOAA recently joined dozens of fellow military and veteran service organizations, along with other nonprofits and federal agencies, among the ranks of the Partnership to Fight Cybercrime. Cybercrime Support Network convened this Partnership to educate and mobilize the military and veteran community to recognize, report, and recover from cybercrime.
MOAA has worked to educate its members on these scams for many years via webinars, online resources, and news updates. That work comes for good reason: Reports made to the Federal Trade Commission show servicemembers, veterans, and their families lost more than $822 million to cybercrime from 2017 to 2021.
“Financial education is a bedrock benefit of MOAA membership, and helping our members avoid these costly scams is a critical part of that benefit,” said Lt. Gen. Dana T. Atkins, USAF (Ret), MOAA’s president and CEO. “This partnership offers MOAA more resources in this effort. We’re proud to stand with our partners in support of the financial health of the uniformed service and veteran communities.”

Other organizations taking part in the partnership include Army Emergency Relief, Disabled American Veterans, the National Military Family Association, and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. In September, the VA announced a partnership with the Cybercrime Support Network to help protect veterans targeted by identity thieves and other online scammers.
"Our goal is to help veterans from becoming victims of cyber fraud,” Interim CEO and Chief Strategy Officer for Cybercrime Support Network Robert Burda said in a VA press release. “Together, we are building a support system that will create a space for real change and cybersecurity innovation in the military and veteran community.”
