As the pandemic has created a challenging employment landscape, MOAA has stepped up to support all members of the military community, connecting them with vital resources to aid in their career success.

Over the next several weeks, MOAA will continue hosting a series of virtual events  to support transitioning servicemembers, veterans and military spouses impacted by furlough or layoffs, and members of all those groups who are seeking career advancement opportunities.

A variety of webinar events will allow job seekers to understand federal hiring, prepare federal résumés, participate in career fairs, gain valuable insights through employer panels, and fully understand their path to retirement. These free and complimentary events open to the broader military community are part of MOAA’s Virtual Career and Transition Toolkit; get details here.

These tools can be vital, especially for federal hiring.

“Even the most highly qualified candidate must still successfully navigate the hiring process in order to get the job.” said Capt. Patricia Cole, USN (Ret), MOAA’s program director for career transition services and a frequent webinar presenter.

The initial step in the process: A strong first impression.

“Whether it be a networking event, LinkedIn connection, or virtual career fair, have your 30-second elevator pitch ready,” added Col. Brian Anderson, USAF (Ret),  MOAA’s senior director for transition and member services (and another frequent webinar host).

Some upcoming events (all times Eastern):

To participate in a virtual event, simply register online; get the full, updated listing of all upcoming events here. If you are interested in attending a webinar but not able to join live, you may still register for the event and receive a link for viewing after it occurs. MOAA Premium and Life members can access all the webinars via our webinar archive.

Virtual Executive Training

MOAA’s daylong Military Executive Transition (MET) Seminar, with tiered pricing based upon your MOAA membership level, also will be held online.

“The MET not only helps candidates get a bird’s-eye view of the whole transition process, it also provides an opportunity to connect to other senior professionals and establish networking ties that can extend well past their transition and on into their new careers,” Cole said.

For members, resources do not stop at webinars and online events.

“MOAA members routinely express great appreciation for the helpful résumé critiques, LinkedIn profile reviews, various career transition tips, tools, and techniques for their next career step, often providing successful landing reports.” said Capt. Pat Williams, USN (Ret), MOAA’s program director for engagement and transition services.

Premium and Life Members may use MOAA subject-matter experts as resources and guides as they embark upon the next part of their career. One on one interview preparation and résumé critiques allow job seekers to get the most out of their search. Members also may access exclusive publications as they chart the course toward their next endeavor.
