Throughout our approximately 94-year history, the Military Officers Association of America has been committed to supporting the needs of the currently serving, veterans, survivors, and military families. While we are best known for our advocacy work before Congress and the Executive Branch, we also provide an array of programs to assist the military community with career transition, health care and benefits education, VA disability claims information, and specialized services to meet the unique needs of military families, including a college scholarship program for the children of current and former servicemembers. Moreover, our service and legislative initiatives continue to win accolades as MOAA was again recognized as one of The Hill’s Top Lobbyists in 2022. Some of the most significant measures championed on behalf of all eight uniformed services include key legislation to expand benefits for veterans subjected to burn pit and toxic exposure.

As the nearly 3 million Americans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan join previous generations of veterans, it’s clear that many of our veterans will require long-term caregiving support. These caregivers are spouses, parents, children, and relatives. Moreover, many coworkers, neighbors, and friends also take on caregiver responsibilities. The personal impact of providing care is enormous, the physical and emotional toll can be substantial, and navigating through the policies and procedures of various government agencies can be overwhelming.

Because of the important role caregivers play in promoting faster recovery and enhancing quality of life for ill and injured veterans, MOAA is honored to have partnered with The Elizabeth Dole Foundation to produce this caregiver guide focused on the legal and financial needs of multiple generations of caregivers. It’s our small contribution to share information and best practices with the cadre of caregivers whose contributions are essential for the care of our military servicemembers and veterans.
