From the Shenandoah Valley to Skyline Drive, from historic towns, battlefields, and antique shops to upscale resorts, wineries, and art galleries, and from luxury resorts to boutique hotels and B&Bs, you can find it in Virginia — including military discounts.
Kingsmill Resort, a family resort on the James River in Williamsburg, is near historic attractions including Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, and Yorktown Victory Center. The resort has a spa, golf, tennis, and a pool. Active duty military members and veterans get a 15-percent discount. (At this writing, the nightly rate with the discount started at $161.) In the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Massanutten Resort is a family-friendly mountain resort. Retired and active duty military members save 10 percent on lodging, with additional discounts on waterpark admission, greens and cart fees, spa services, and retail items. Hotel Weyanoke, a boutique hotel in a historic building in the college town of Farmville, offers active duty servicemembers, veterans, and retired military members a 10-percent discount. (At this writing, the military rate started at $98.) The 70-room upscale hotel incorporates original features such as circa-1925 chandeliers, marble flooring, and tin ceilings, along with modern amenities such as a rooftop bar. The hotel is near historic sites, Main Street shops, the Green Front Furniture market, and hiking/biking trails. Call (434) 658-7500.
The 13-room The Henry Clay Inn in Ashland is near art galleries, the Ashland theater, and antique stores. The historic Amtrak train depot is across the street. Military members get a 15-percent discount (not available online). Call (804) 798-3100.
Adjacent to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive, Caledonia Farm is near antique shops, wineries, and Civil War battlegrounds. All rooms have air conditioning, fireplaces, and free Wi-Fi. The regular nightly rate is $140, but military members who stay two nights (arriving Sunday-Tuesday) get the third night free. No children or pets. Call (800) 262-1812.
